Who We Are.png

Rotary Takapuna North makes a positive difference in our community

A member of Rotary International, Rotary Takapuna North is centred on Castor Bay Milford and has a broad cross section of members mostly in business locally or in Auckland City. It is mixed, male, female, varied ages and a growing diversity in nationalities. Its membership ranges in number from 30 to 40. It meets weekly on a Monday night from 5.45pm to 7.45pm with a bar and meal, and a minimum of formality. The speaker is generally a good fit with the Club’s strategy and purpose. Much of the project work is in members’ time, relying on regular coordination by phone/email in small groups. We are well aware of the pressure on members’ time and this is reflected in each individual’s interest and uptake of the various opportunities available.

our impact.png

Rotary Takapuna North is dedicated to supporting young people to reach their full potential & large impactful community projects.

Typical impacts are:

The YES Disability Resource Centre, established some 10 years ago arising from the conviction of one of our members who suffered a brain injury in a cycling accident. This involved several Rotary Clubs on the North Shore, led by Rotary Takapuna North, that has been very successful in filling a gap supporting disabled young people on the North Shore. Other large projects are KiwiHarvest and Oturu School in Northland.

Each year we support local schools in a number of programmes such as developing leadership skills, attending science workshops that help crystalise ambition, supporting inbound and outbound students into or out of New Zealand on international visits.

Many local charities rely on Rotary Takapuna North for both financial support, but as importantly for hands on support in their various fundraising activities. Examples include Great Quiz Nights, beach cleaning, running a Christmas party for disabled people, supporting golf tournaments, bucket rattling at national charitable collections.

Our History.png

Rotary Takapuna North has been serving the community for over 40 years contributing to over 500 projects that have had a lasting impact.

It was 40 years ago when a group of like minded 30 year old’s left Takapuna Rotary Club to start a new Rotary club - Rotary Takapuna North. The philosophy that guided them then was to build on the Rotary ideal of "service above self “ and to do it with less formality and younger energetic people, combining friendship and humour with a can do attitude to achieve worthwhile projects.

The number of worthwhile projects the members of this club have been involved with are well over 500, all of these to assist people and their organisations in our local and near Pacific communities. None of us could have achieved success in these projects without our friends in our Rotary club, other Rotary clubs in New Zealand and the power for good that Rotary International brings to the many issues that peoples of the world face today. With the involvement of the wonderful younger people who are choosing to join our club we can look forward to continuing Rotary’s success over the next forty years.
