Oturu School Project

This project started three years ago when we funded five polytunnels at the school.  The Education Dept replaced all the school buildings last Christmas, and our current project is to help the school reinstate the planting and educational facilities lost in the transition.

The school has a role of 140 that will reach 180 by the end of this year. It is 95% Maori with a decile rating of 1A. It has a unique culture where the children are fully involved in both academic learning and lifestyle pursuits including food production (fruit & vegetables) environmental issues and taking responsibility for each other.

Principal Fraser Smith has three priorities: re-establish his ‘new’ school so that it replicates the old school’s look and feel, help in providing a boarding scholarship so that one of his chosen students can excel in their future life, and assist at a practical level with facilities to replace those lost in the rebuild. Rotary Takapuna North has a lead role in supporting him in this ambition.
